Spiritual Communion

Prayer of St Alphonsus Liguori

For the times in the days and weeks ahead where you will be unable to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion, you can still reach out to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament with an act of Spiritual Communion. When you are watching a livestream of the Mass, at the time when you would normally receive Communion you can instead say this prayer (written by the 18th Century Italian Saint Alphonsus Liguori):

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
