'You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.'

Matthew 5:14-16

So many of the people of our diocese are reaching out to people outside the Church in amazing ways. Many of these groups and projects function through volunteer support, so maybe consider if you could support some of this great work!

We have chaplains actively serving hospitals, prisons, the military and more across our diocese.

Justice, peace and social responsibility

We campaign across the areas that matter to the Church, from abortion and pro-life issues to the environmental concerns of our day to name just a few. We are working towards justice, peace and reconciliation in our own society and overseas.

The Archdiocese of Bamenda is our twin diocese in Cameroon. The Bamenda Portsmouth Committee funds projects in Cameroon, which have been even more vital now that Cameroon is enduring a period of civil unrest.

Caritas Diocese of Portsmouth does this by working predominantly at parish level, helping to determine and address local needs and to design social action projects which respond to these needs especially to help the most vulnerable. All the projects promoted will be firmly rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.

CAFOD is the major Catholic foreign aid charity in the UK and it is very active in our diocese. Why not see what's been going on by visiting our CAFOD worker's blog?
