One of the workshops was about Young People and Justice and Peace. Thank you to the young people from Portsmouth Justice and Peace Group, to Eileen McDermott from Youth SVP and the group from Winchester who shared their experiences.

"Splashout" on clean water

In the UK we take clean, available water for granted! But for a big group of students from Portsmouth, Hampshire and Southampton, an event called 'Splashout' has changed all that!

Water was the theme of an interesting day for lots of students from St Edmund's Catholic School, Portsmouth, Oaklands Catholic School, Hampshire, and St George's Catholic School, Southampton, who met up on April 24 for a project called Splashout!

The idea was to look at what water means to us here in the UK and how this can be so different in the developing world. There were talks by Portsmouth Water, followed by a talk on the need for more available water in many villages in Kenya. The group is planning to fundraise for a 'Bore Well project', which will help to provide safe, clean water for villagers.

In the UK, we take water for granted, we turn on the tap and it is there. But of course - this often isn't the case in Kenya. Many villagers don't have access to clean water to cook with and drink. If villages have a well, it can make a huge difference to the health and lives of the people.

The school groups also got creative on fundraising campaigns to achieve the £750 targets needed to provide the wells. Watch this space to see how many wells the group will 'Splashout' on soon!
