Confirmation is a key time for young people in their deepening relationship with Christ. It is a real opportunity to engage with young people and to walk with them on their faith journey.  

After Confirmation, they need to be drawn into the life of the parish after they have received the sacrament. This may be building on a ministry that the young person is already involved with or it may be something new. This will allow the faith of the young person to develop further.

Together with Kate Harris and Nicky Stevens, two of my colleagues in the Department who are Advisers for Catechesis, I am keen to know how parishes and deaneries are working towards Confirmation with their young people.

Receive the Spirit

A Diocesan day on the sacrament of confirmation was attended by over 50 catechists, deacons and priests. The new church hall of St Bede’s at Basingstoke provided a beautiful setting for the day and many participants said how much they appreciated being able to see the new church and parish centre.

We were delighted to have Yonara Bandeira and Carolina Andrade two lay missionaries from Brazil , who are at Sacred Heart Church in Bournemouth for one year.

The focus for the day was on the importance of reflecting on the Rite of Confirmation itself as preparation for the sacrament. This is for everyone - catechists, candidates, families, sponsors, clergy and parish community.
