The Diocese has maintained schools in 13 local authority areas. The Department for Schools works in partnership with these authorities: Oxfordshire, West Berkshire, Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell Forest, Windsor and Maidenhead, Surrey, Hampshire, Dorset, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight. The Diocese also works closely with the States of Guernsey, where there are two Catholic primary schools.
The Diocesan Director and /or Deputy Director of Education meet regularly with their counterparts and senior officers of local authorities to discuss organisational issues, provision of school places, the relative performance of Catholic schools in their various local contexts as well as developments and locals initiatives.
To ensure that the interests of Catholic schools are fully represented in all appropriate forums the Department for Schools provides representatives to statutory bodies and Local Authorities committees, eg , Admissions Forums, School Forums and Scrutiny Committees.
Nominees from the Dioceses of Birmingham, Arundel and Brighton and Plymouth represent our interests on relevant committees in Oxfordshire, Surrey and Dorset respectively, while this diocese represents the interests of Birmingham Archdiocese on committees in Reading.
