Confirmation is a key time for young people in their deepening relationship with Christ. It is a real opportunity to engage with young people and to walk with them on their faith journey. After Confirmation, they need to be drawn more fully into the life of the parish - this may be building on a ministry that the young person is already involved with or it may be something new. This will allow the faith of the young person to develop further.
Together with Monika Chmelova and Nicky Stevens, two of my colleagues in the Department who are Advisors for Catechesis, I am keen to know how Parishes and Pastoral Areas are working towards Confirmation with their young people.
We want to be able to share what is going on in the Diocese so please, get in touch.

Receive the Gift - Saturday 16th October 2010Catechists from all over the diocese gathered to look at how we prepare our young people to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Dave Hill, the Advisor for Youth Ministry went through a range of ways of praying with young people. This was followed up by Monica Chmelova, Advisor for Catechesis and Adult Formation, who looked at using scripture, especially the use of Lectio Divina. After lunch, Paul Inwood looked at how we use the music and the importance of the liturgy to prepare the young people. We were grateful to have Redemptorist Publications with us who provided a range of resources. Thanks also to Ursula Clark, Headteacher of the School for hosting the day.
