LITURGY

Diocesan Ordo

Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth

--

The Diocesan Ordo is the detailed liturgical calendar for each liturgical year, starting on 1st Vespers of the 1st Sunday of Advent (i.e. the evening preceding) and continuing to Saturday of the last week of Ordinary Time in the following liturgical year. It tells clergy and laity what prayers, readings and commemorations take place on each day, and includes such details as anniversaries of deceased clergy, the founding of parishes, and special collections through the year.

The Ordo is published each year under the Director of Liturgy's supervision and is serviced by the Department.

The Diocesan Proper texts for feasts and memorials have been out of print for many years. A project to revise them in the light of the revised translation of the Roman Missal has been put on hold, pending a possible amalgamation into a new National Proper incorporating all the diocesan propers for England and Wales. In the meantime, the complete current texts (with the proper for St Edmund of Abingdon previously available here) are now provided in PDF format, including updated biographies and one or more images for each day. Click on the link below (a 64-page document: please allow time for it to load).
