Marriage Preparation:  Southampton

Our couples come mainly from Southampton area. We are not really trying at all to get them from further a field at present, we can just about cope with the amount we have now. we have 4 couples facilitators, including my husband and myself. We offer 2-3 courses per year, each course 3 evening sessions, covering different aspects per evening. On one evening the local priest will come as well and will talk about Christian marriage.

The contents of the course: This depends a bit on the facilitators we have, but on the whole:

First evening is on communication, problems in communication and difference in communication between man and woman.

Second evening is on conflict and how to deal with it, commitment, what does it mean, Problems, a list of different problems is discussed in smaller groups, and usually a video on sexuality in marriage by Rob Parsons (Care for the Family).

Last evening we talk about expectations in marriage, Reasons for getting married and Christian marriage. We end the evening with a festive drink.

Our groups have a maximum of 12 couples.

St Boniface, Shirley

Here in St Boniface parish in Southampton we provide one course a year at present, run on two evenings and one whole Saturday. The team consists of 3 married couples from the parish.  We usually recruit 8 - 10 couples on each course, drawing from neighbouring parishes as well as our own.  We make a nominal charge of £10 per couple for expenses.

Currently we are working on planning a reunion for participants from earlier courses.
