Interfaith Dialogue - the work of the Church

Monday 5th March, 7.30pm
English Martyrs Church, Liebenrood Road, Reading RG30 2EB

  • Archbishop Kevin McDonald will speak on the importance of Interfaith, drawing on the Church's teaching on the subject since Vatican 2.  Archbishop Kevin has been involved in Interfaith work in this country and in Rome.

  • Katharina Muller, Interreligious Adviser to the Bishops' Conference, will share practical experiences of Interfaith in other dioceses and speak about the recently published booklet from the Bishops’ Conference, 'Meeting God in Friend and Stranger'.

During his visit to Great Britain, Pope Benedict XVI promised that "Catholics, both in Britain and throughout the world, will continue to work to build bridges of friendship to other religions", and the bishops of England and Wales state, in their teaching document 'Meeting God in Friend and Stranger: fostering respect and mutual understanding between the religions' that dialogue "has become part of the contemporary Catholic Church's understanding of her Christ-given mission".  How can we, in our parishes, answer this call to dialogue? How can we be open and welcoming to people of other religions in our areas, and how can we get our fellow Catholics involved? These and other questions will be discussed during the evening.
