Why are we a Fairtrade Diocese?

It is reasonable to ask a key question. Why should Catholic parishes (and religious houses and schools for that matter) and the Diocese want Fairtrade status?

Well, it

allows all of us, as the 'Body of Christ,' to demonstrate our solidarity with the poor and disadvantaged rural producers in the developing world
enables individual members of our congregations to see and try for themselves the expanding and excellent range of Fairtrade products
helps show other local communities that we have a practical commitment to helping those in need - a widely acknowledged sign of humanitarian concern
helps us in working in unity with other churches supporting Fairtrade
encourages other groups or parties who hold meetings on our premises to sign up too (though you're not responsible for what they serve at their meetings)
give us all something extra to feel proud about as Catholics and Christians
