Diocesan Day for Catechists 2017

16th October 2017

Sister Hyacinthe writes...

A big thank you to all the catechists who took part in our Diocesan day for Catechists at Portsmouth Cathedral last Saturday.

Bishop Philip celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for all Diocesan Catechists, at the end of which he commissioned those present for their ministry in the diocese. You can read Bishop Philip's Homily here.

Our day was centred on the Scripture, and most of us came home with a renewed understanding and passion for the Bible, and better ideas on how to make it part of our catechesis.

Fr Richard Ounsworth, OP gave a fantastic talk on Scripture, teaching us to find Christ at the centre of it all. You can listen to it here.

Congratulations to all the catechists who have been awarded their Diocesan and Maryvale certificates, and find themselves better equipped in their vital ministry.

If you wish to sign up for more formation, and enrol on one of the Maryvale courses, visit the Formation for Mission page on the website.

Here is some of the feedback we’ve received from catechists:

  • ‘A wonderful opportunity to get together. All speakers spoke with passion and enthusiasm. Great to see such witness of faith.’
  • ‘Very encouraged!’
  • ‘Keynote speech excellent – found it very enlightening’
  • ‘Thank you for stimulating so much new thinking and wonderful hospitality’
  • ‘Very informative and confidence building!!’
  • ‘Thoroughly enjoyed the day including the variety of resources available to buy.’
