Celebrating 3,237 years of marriage in the diocese

27th June 2017

On Saturday 24th June Bishop Philip celebrated our annual diocesan Mass for those celebrating a Significant Wedding Anniversary at St Bede's Basingstoke. We gave thanks to God for 25, 30, 40, 50, even 60+ years of marriage! There were 77 couples present, with between them 3,237 years’ experience of marriage? A fantastic achievement: congratulations! The most popular category this year is the Golden Wedding: we had 27 couples celebrating 50 years of marriage, together with 8 celebrating 60 and one, 65 years.

You are God’s chosen race, his saints; he loves you says St. Paul, full of advice. Let’s truly give thanks to God for His great love, for the mystery of His choice, for the call to marriage and for the grace, amidst the difficulties, to persevere. Indeed, let’s turn to the Holy Family of Nazareth, asking the prayers of Mary and Joseph for ourselves and for our families.

You can see some photos from the celebration below and you can read Bishop Philip's homily here.
