Department for Schools

The Department promotes and develops all aspects of the Catholic nature of our schools. It is responsible to the Bishop for advising, developing and inspecting the quality and provision of religious education and collective worship. The Department represents the Bishop at the appointment of heads, deputies, heads of R.E. and chaplains. The Department administers the process for the appointment of foundation governors. It advises and supports governing bodies on their statutory and legal responsibilities as maintained and independent schools and provides advice and in-service to governing bodies on many aspects of their responsibilities, including admissions, employment law, partnership with the local authorities and all aspects of their responsibilities as diocesan schools.
