The Society was formed in 1984 with the approval of the Bishops' Conference as a national membership organisation of black and white Catholics concerned to work for racial justice in the Church and in society. It works with parishes, Justice and Peace groups, schools, seminaries and related Catholic and ecumenical organisations.
