What is Called and Gifted?

God is calling you to a unique purpose in life, a work of love that only you can do. You have received gifts in Baptism and Confirmation through which God intends his love to reach others. The Called and Gifted process is an opportunity to start to recognise your charisms (spiritual gifts) and begin to discern God’s call. Come and discover these charisms.

The Called and Gifted Teaching Weekend is a Friday evening and Saturday day-time presentation which includes teaching on the role of the laity, the nature of charisms, call and vocation and how to undertake the process of discernment.

These presentations will teach you:

  • The signs and characteristics of 24 of the most common charisms of the Holy Spirit.
  • How discerning your charisms can change the world and help spread the Gospel, not only in your parish but throughout your everyday life.
  •  How discerning and using our charisms together can help transform and renew our parishes.
  • After the Weekend, you can take part in a private, one-to-one discernment conversation with a trained member of the team, which will help you recognise patterns in your life that might indicate the presence of a charism.

You are then encouraged to continue your discernment in small groups based in the parish, following a structured process.

The Called and Gifted process is firmly rooted in Catholic theology and ecclesiology. Bishop Philip is keen for as many people as possible throughout the Diocese to have the opportunity to start discovering their charisms.

What people are saying:

The Weekend …

Absolutely LOVED the Weekend!!!
Felt called (to come) … great to be “fed” spiritually in my Catholic faith

The One-to-One Gifts Conversation …

My discussion took place in a very relaxed manner which meant we were both at ease immediately
I left with an energised purpose to follow and discern my charisms

The Small Discernment Groups …

Small Discernment Group – a joy! Despite only knowing each other for a short time, there was a trust and bond developing as the morning wore on…. there was laughter too!

The Called & Gifted Programme in general …

I hope a lot more of my brothers and sisters will join in Called and Gifted would seem to be a very valuable process to pursue within the Diocese
