4th November 2018 - Bamenda Sunday

"On behalf of the Portsmouth Bamenda Committee I wish to express my thanks to the people of the Diocese for their generosity in supporting the collection on Bamenda Sunday.

My thanks also to all those people who spoke at the masses and gave up their time in various fund raising projects.

Please remember Bamenda in your prayers in these difficult times."

Blessing and Prayers for Bamenda Sunday

God of heaven, of earth and all that is, pour forth your blessing upon the shepherds entrusted to the care of the people of Bamenda, we pray for Archbishop Cornelius and all the clergy, that through their ministry, the presence of your Son might be witnessed. Lord in your mercy…

Almighty and ever benevolent God, may your blessing be upon our twinned Diocese of Bamenda. We ask you to bestow peace and unity on their people at this time, that your grace may bring a renewed ability for all to love their neighbor. Lord in your mercy…

Heavenly Father, we ask for your blessing upon this plaque+, that whenever your faithful gaze upon it, that they might remember their Brothers and Sisters in Christ of Bamenda. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Bishop Philip  celebrated the 10 am Mass in the Cathedral and blessed a commemorative plaque to mark Archbishop Cornelius’s 35th anniversary of ordination as a bishop.

We prayed for Archbishop Cornelius, the clergy and people of our sister Diocese in Cameroon, the Archdiocese of Bamenda. We also had a second collection, for all the projects and support our Diocese wishes to give to the Church in Bamenda.

Bamenda Lunch at Corpus Christi with St Joseph Parish in Portsmouth

Corpus Christi with St Joseph Parish in Portsmouth hold an Annual Bamenda Lunch which is attended by Parishioners and also Members from Neighbouring Churches – more and more attend each year. A Team of Helpers cook and serve a three course Lunch and proceeds are sent, via Archbishop’s House in Bamenda, for the Sister to buy the bags of rice, so she can provide a quarter of a child’s portion of rice a day to the poor souls in desperate need of it.

Our first Parish Project was to fund raise for the water to be piped down into Baba I Village, so the Residents could have clean water to drink.

Our former Parish Priest, Fr Francis Isherwood, who served many years ago in the Arch-Diocese, knew the desperation of our Sisters and Brothers in Bamenda.  His cherished wish was that we continue to support them – we try to do this in a practical way and are grateful for the support we receive from everyone attending.
